Get a model home look with these 9 designer tips and tricks

Do you enjoy touring Model Homes and wished you could recreate the look in your own space but have no idea where to start, well It isn’t as hard as you might think. Here are 9 designer tips and tricks that will help you get that Model Homes look of your dreams!
1. Mixing textures:
The easiest way to add and mix textures in the home is through fabrics and textiles.  Texture is the key to any successful interior design.  While color, pattern and proportion are also important, a room empty of textural contrasts is simply boring.
In the picture below we've added accessories to the space to contrast the smooth leather on the couch with beautiful textured throws and pillows, then we anchored the furniture with a gorgeous jute area rug. The play on texture compliments the smooth surface of the leather couch bringing the space to life and giving it interest and a finishing touch.

2. Draperies:

Draperies have a number of subtle benefits. Drapes soften the light, protect the homes interior from the heat and cold, and help absorb noise, they help create a calming, cozy and pleasant space adding warmth and style that dramatically transform any space.  When in pursuit of the perfect  drape, fabric choice is a key element to think about. Determine how the curtain will function in a space before deciding on a fabric.

For a sunnier vibe, consider a lightweight fabric, like linen or cotton. It creates a casual, airy feel in most spaces.Add drama to a space with heavier fabrics, like suede and velvet.  Draperies add style, interest and elegance to your home interiors.

 3. Area Rugs:

In my opinion an Area rug is one of the easiest ways to inject color, textures and pattern into a space. They  can visually soften hard surface floors and  unifies the furniture placed on it. Personally I won’t start working on a space until I’ve selected the area rug. The perfect area rug should be the right mix of comfort, style and color.  When choosing your rug size make sure your furniture fits onto the rug completely.  Sofas always look better with all sides on a rug rather than off .

A good rule of thumb when figuring out the size of your area rug is to measure the circumference of the placed furniture and add two feet on every side.  For example, under a dinning room table the additional two feet will give enough room for dinning chairs to be pulled out and still remain on the rug.

Here again we apply the design rule of three. Use at least three patterns in a room, the key to successful mixing is to vary the scale, from small to large,  patterns. Try to use colors that are of the same intensity. Distribute patterns evenly throughout the room. Don't place too many patterns on top off each other (break them up with solids).
